There is now a solar system installed on my roof. It's not mine. It is owned by the company which installed it. They get the tax credits which are substantial, but which would have been worthless to me anyway as my only income is Social Security. In return, it is supposed to offset my entire electric bill. Also I will pay them something akin to "rent", but my current power bill is $285 a month and my "rent" on this system is $210. In addition increases in my "rent" are capped at 3% whereas my power bill recently increased 40%. That's the good news.
I have had up to 3 guys crawling around on my roof, hammering and drilling for two days. It has made the dog downright nutso. She's barked and growled today even more than she did yesterday. That's been a thrill. But, worth it in the very near future, I hope.
The system is still not usable. The power company has to inspect it. I'm praying that happens really soon. I've had estimates that this inspection could be in the next 2 days or not for 3 weeks.
It was bothersome and deserving of mention at the time I signed the deal (it wasn't), but they had to turn all the power off to the house for 30-40 minutes. Thank goodness I had purchased the portable, battery-powered oxygen concentrator a few weeks ago. And thank goodness it was fully charged!
I made Haluski for dinner tonight. If you've never had it, it's thinly sliced cabbage browned with onion. Then noodles are mixed in. I usually add a little sour cream, and I like it a lot for a very budget friendly item. However, I ran into problems tonight. I decided to try a variation, adding a little chopped bacon and cooking the cabbage in the bacon grease. Then I discovered I was out of sour cream. I thought I could use some Greek yogurt to substitute for the sour cream and then I realized the yogurt was spoiled. All in all, I'm not to thrilled with this version of Haluski. I ended up sharing a good bit of mine with Alyssa who had no complaints.......
