I asked to leave work early today. I had 3 errands I needed to complete and then be home by 4PM, ready to receive the client who was due to arrive at that time. They let me leave about 5 minutes early.
The most urgent errand was a trip to the AT&T store to have them look at my phone. The phone isn't much use when it can't be used for outgoing calls........... Well, the guy today basically greeted me at the door, asked about the problem, took the back off the phone, removed the battery, removed the SIM card, replaced everything and it was fixed. AND he showed me what he was doing so that the next time this crops up, I can do it myself. According to him, the phone gets jostled in some way and this "resets" it. Okay, whatever. I just need it to work! Anyway, it was a quick trip in and out, quite surprisingly. It took me MUCH longer last time.
Next, the bank account has dwindled and I unearthed a few cashable checks, so I wanted to get them into the bank. I need to acquire some back up ink supplies and I need to have $$$ in the bank account to back up the debit card. It wasn't much money, but still...........more than enough to buy ink for the printer. No one in line when I got to the bank so I happily got that taken care of and scooted out of there. The nice part about this is that the AT&T store and the bank are in the outlying buildings around the same big strip mall.
Third item on the list--water. I had 3 empty water bottles in the van. I don't like letting my water reserves get too far down. Three empties is my limit. So, I got all three filled and lifted back into the van and headed the last little bit home. The tax return that was due to be picked up was ready--I had made sure of that this morning before I left. But, being a bit OCD, I thought I should double check it again. And once I got that done, I was ready for the client to arrive with about 10 minutes to spare. And he didn't come. I spoke with him last night and it was agreed I'd be home and waiting for him by 4. He finally came around 5:30. Ugh!
I wanted in the worst way to get a nap. But, instead i was sentenced to "wait", one of my least favorite things to do. I didn't want to be back in the back of the house because, while it's hard to hear a knock on the door or to hear the doorbell ring if I'm in the office, it's almost impossible if I'm back in the bedroom or bathroom, and we all know Parker is no help. He doesn't bark, even if someone knocks on the door. This client is well into his 80's and I did not want to have him wobble up to the house from his vehicle--he's a little unsteady on his feet. So first I worked on carrying the water bottles in. I was really tired when I finished that, but I got all 3 into the house.
I had bought a box fan last week for my bedroom. But I hadn't taken time to set it up. So, in the living room, right inside the front door, I put that together and quickly set it up in the bedroom. If you remember, I had a fan I'd used in there for years and it bit the dust a few weeks ago. But, I can't sleep unless there is air movement. I remembered that there was a fan in the guest room. So, I have been using that. But, it barely stirs the air and I haven't slept well........... The box fan works much better, thank the Lord.
Anyway, I finally went and took a nap around 6 and slept almost 3 hours. So far, I've managed to unload the dishwasher and straighten up the kitchen some and that is the extent of my accomplishments...........NOT a good showing for the evening, particularly considering I am headed to bed when I finish this.........
I spent most of the day in Lumber again. That entailed 2 trips down and back and my legs were quite uncooperative today. I made it, but............. I was wearing my crocs. They work fine when I am just hanging around the front end, but this evening my ankles and knees are talking back. I have been going down to Lumber a good bit lately, but usually not two trips. Well, it probably helped me rebuild .0001% of the muscle I've lost, so praise be............The muscles in my back are sore, but I think that is unrelated to the shoe issue.
Our newest full time head cashier is something else. The most senior head cashier sent me to Lumber. I was down there just a few minutes and the phone rang. It was the newest full time head cashier. She couldn't figure out where I was............I just absolutely marvel at this. She knows I don't go out to Outside Lawn & Garden. She has a clipboard that records every employee's schedule. It shows what time I'm due in and it shows whether or not I've called saying I'm sick. It records what time I'm due a break. The front end where most of the registers are is clearly visible to the head cashiers. If I'm there, not due a break, and she can't see me, where else would I be? I couldn't possibly be anywhere but Lumber. What is with the phone calls? This has happened frequently and it astonishes me. She should know by now that I'm not the kind of employee who just disappears. Besides, opportunities for cashiers to disappear are few and far between. If I can follow a logical process and figure out where everyone is, why can't she? Isn't she supposed to be my "superior"? Oh, well, I guess we all have our strengths and weaknesses and, certainly, I have mine. I will keep reminding myself she was the only applicant for the position..............This is also the head cashier who gossips about her bosses and about her employees, a BIG no-no for a supervisor.........
Night all. Enough out of me!
