Well, I've been working in that guest room again. It's amazing the various things I've found. For some things, there is just no explanation as to how or why they got there. For example, I just unearthed 3 pieces of luggage, the soft sided kind, folded up and buried under a bunch of bedding. My first question would probably be why the bedding isn't on the beds (mattress pads and such) and then I'd have to ask what is empty luggage doing in the guest room when we've always kept it (or so I thought) in the garage. I've found shoes and purse from one of DD's proms, baby clothes, you name it. The box for DD is now overflowing. I think it'll have to become two boxes.
I finished the vacuuming I wanted to get done today including vacuuming up dog hair in the guest room. After thinking about it, I think I've figured that one out. After Parker joined us, Joe wanted all 3 BIG dogs to sleep in our bed with us. (The smallest weighs 60+ pounds.) Well, night after night, I found myself hanging onto the edge of the bed just to have a place to try to sleep. And, a lot of the time I didn't sleep. And if I did happen to go to sleep, some dog would dig a couple of paws into my back and use it for a springboard to change position. And, if that didn't happen, I'd be "trapped" into sleeping in one position all night because there was no way there was room for me to turn over. Add to that Max's interminable shedding........... it seemed like I kept waking up with dog hair in my mouth. Pffffffffftttt! And, day after day, I'd be just exhausted. I complained about it for months and he just ignored me. Finally, I had to say "No way, Jose". I just couldn't take it any more. Well, Mr. Joe didn't like that one bit and he got mad. And he moved to the guest room and took the three dogs with him.
If that was supposed to make me feel bad, it didn't! In fact, it was a relief. A cause to celebrate! At last a night's sleep. I was thrilled. Well, he slept in there for a while til he figured out that the dogs wouldn't stay in there, were constantly up and down on and off the beds, and were keeping HIM awake. It was okay when the dogs were keeping ME awake, but when it started to bother HIM, things changed, LOL. Eventually, he made his way back to the master bedroom and we compromised by having Punkin sleep with us.
Punkin won the draw to sleep with us for a couple of reasons. 1) If we had allowed one boy dog in but not the other, there would have been all sorts of territorial stuff aroused. 2) Punkin is the smallest of the three. 3) Punkin doesn't shed. 4) Punkin only wanted to sleep at the foot of the bed so Mama wasn't being pushed off the bed when she was there.
Anyway, I think during that period of time when Joe and the dogs were sleeping in the guest room, that was when that dog hair was deposited in there.
I still haven't found the cookbooks. I've found a few, but not the bulk of them. I honestly think I'll donate most of them when I find them (who needs cookbooks when you have access to the internet???), but there is one set I've had forever--that one I will keep. It has lots of tried and true recipes, recipes where I've made notes about changes, suggestions, etc. I sure would like to find that set. At this point, all I can figure is that there's another box of books in the garage or they're somewhere in the junk room. I'm running out of places to look!
I got part of this room dusted, the desk, the little chest at the end of the desk, the side chairs, the printer stand, the printer, and the total gym. I decided while this room was my project that it would make sense to store the old EHD's in the same box with all the stray cords. So, I've been dusting them and moving them so that that box can sit in place until the time comes to paint boxes.
I mentioned about a week ago that somehow the bookcase in the livingroom had collapsed. One shelf fell on the shelf below it and that shelf fell on the shelf below it, and so on. I know one shelf is broken. Broken to the point I'm not sure there's a way to continue to use it. However, the only way I'm going to be sure is to unload all the books off of there and move them someplace else. Well, sitting in the hall way is a small bookshelf that, years ago, used to hold bathroom stuff--cosmetics, health and beauty stuff, spare TP. Joe made a big deal about how he couldn't get in and out of the shower with that set of shelves in the way. I thought if it was such a big deal, he could just go use the shower in the hall bath. Or, since he was sporting a good 40 pounds excess weight, maybe he could lose some weight, which certainly would have been beneficial for his health. We had two bathrooms and two people--what's the big deal? Well, he continued to gripe and finally that set of shelves got moved, to the hallway of all places, and we bought shelves that would fit elsewhere in the bathroom, far removed from the shower. (And, of course, about then, he claimed the other bathroom!)
So, I think maybe I can relocate some or all of these books from the living room to the bookshelf in the hallway at least til I see what's up with the livingroom shelves..........
So, anybody got any better suggestions on what to do with these books? And what to do about the broken shelf? I'm at a loss.........
