It seems to me that these policies should be in writing. When I worked at the hospital, we were given a booklet with "stuff" in it. Since I was per-diem, most of what was in there didn't apply to me, but it was nice to have everything in writing so I could check it out myself. Since I was per Diem, and my first manager let us self-schedule, it was easy to work in days off for doctor appointments and such. I had to pre-approve "vacation" time--because she only allowed "so many" to be on vacation at any one time--and no vacations were approved for holidays except in extreme cases. We were all assigned the holidays we'd be able to have off!! But it worked. It was "fair" to an extent--everybody was treated the same--and we all pitched in when needed! good luck trying to find the right person to talk to!! That would be very frustrating!!
